As you may know from reading other posts here or from checking out my photo site, I use a Nikon D300 and a Nikon S550 camera. I have about 16GB of CF cards for my D300 and an 8GB SD card for my S550, but these are not enough for a week long vacation where I’m going to be taking quite a few pictures. For past trips, like the trip I took to Boise, ID for a week, I have taken my older laptop with me. And while on that trip I bought a 160GB USB hard drive as a second backup device. As you can imagine, a laptop is not a convenient device to carry on a trip.

I’ve taken some panoramas of the South Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve ( SSNERR ). The SSNERR is a tidal wetlands park and research station in Charleston, OR. The park is about 5000 acres.

The skunk cabbage is in full leaf, although by now the flowers are all gone. Don’t forget to click on the pictures for a full size image. The images are about 6000 pixels wide in full size. If rendered at highest quality, some of these pictures would be over 20,000 pixels wide.

Photos are loaded in the gallery. Just added some new ones that I took today. Waves crashing on the rocks and a fellow flying his RC Glider in 30 knots of wind.

I’ve spent a couple of days studying various web gallery solutions.

Requirements
My requirements are:

• Be suitable for a single person gallery. I’m not looking to build a photo portal, just my own galleries / albums.
• Handle EXIF photo data.
• Be easy to set up.
• Be attractive, with the ability to change themes, or select themes. And to customize my own theme.
• Be free, and open source.

Candidates
I found the following candidates. I’m sure this is not an exhaustive list. But I trust google to find the most popular candidates in the first couple of pages of a search.

A few months ago I realized that I need a heavy duty tool to keep track of my photographs. I did a lot of research and finally came up with IMatch.

I’m not going to go through all the research here. I found an informative list of tools and reviews in the forums over at DPReview and using google turned up a few other compendium pages that were helpful.
