The blog has recently been receiving a pile of spam comments. I have activated a CAPTCHA plugin to combat this problem.
Feel free to test this plug-in on this post.
Enjoy.

Last Viewed - SMF Forums – RSS2 compliant feed for the boards.
I’m going to log this problem just so we remember it.
12 Jan 2006 – I noticed that writing a post never returned. And I thought it was a server problem.
13 Jan – In discussions and rooting around in the options I discovered the removing the pingomatic link in options cleared up the problem. Looked like Pingomatic was down. I could not reach it’s website at http://pingomatic.com, but the service would answer a TCP/IP ping.
14 Jan – I checked again and ping answered the website, so I put info for my site into that page. And then I re-installed http://rpc.pingomatic.com in the write options and the post worked correctly.
I’ll log other issues with pingomatic here.
The new SMF based boards are live on the site.
The old boards are still available, but are locked.
I’m investigating Simple Machines Forums as an upgrade from phpBB2 for the forums for this site. Seems like I never can leave well enough alone. In looking around, SMF seems much more modern and has attachments built in. We’ll start with some attractive themes and then probably convert some of the previous themes to SMF, just to get our hands dirty.
Already digging in, I needed to debug the converter for phpBB2 to SMF.
Stay tuned, SMF is pretty cool.
cheers,

I’ve changed the theme again based on the previous theme and some graphics from a site that I liked. I may tweak the colors a little but at this point I’m pretty happy with the color scheme.

The weather site is now working better. Check out the link to Charleson, OR Weather in the Links section.
I’ve gotten around to validating the code, and found a few bugs in the theme code. The pages should validate now.
A friend noticed a problem [difference] between MS IE and Firefox. The banner is not a link in firefox. That was subtle anyway, so I added a link to the main page in the links section, put the links at the top and always enabled the remainder of the menu on all pages. No reason to be subtle with navigation.
cheers,
djd
At least I think they are fixed…
You may have noticed that some pictures couldn’t be displayed. Well, I deployed Coppermine with a plug-in that allows some albums to be removed from the thumbnail lists so that more revealing photos would not show up on the front page. Well, the plug-in either had a bug, or my changes to provide a user interface introduced a bug that prevented images in those albums from being displayed at all.
All fixed now, I think. If you notice something, please comment to this post and I’ll try to address it. Or check the contact page for the email address.
thanks,
djd
Woops… Coppermine is fragile. See the comments.
The site is now live on Godaddy hosting service!!
Forums are restored and live.
The photo gallery [coppermine] is installed, and photos will be added shortly.
Enjoy.
And Merry Christmas!!
I’ve spent a couple of days studying various web gallery solutions.
Requirements
My requirements are:
- Be suitable for a single person gallery. I’m not looking to build a photo portal, just my own galleries / albums.
- Handle EXIF photo data.
- Be easy to set up.
- Be attractive, with the ability to change themes, or select themes. And to customize my own theme.
- Be free, and open source.
Candidates
I found the following candidates. I’m sure this is not an exhaustive list. But I trust google to find the most popular candidates in the first couple of pages of a search.
